You Do All Things Well

SCRIPTURE: Earth is drenched in God’s affectionate satisfaction. The skies were made by God’s command; he breathed the word and the stars popped out. He scooped Sea into his jug, put Ocean in his keg. Psalm 33:5-7 MSG

THOUGHT: When an artist is happy in their work, you can tell, can’t you? Picture Aretha Franklin loving on lyrics in front of a microphone; Eugene Peterson bending over his pen into the wee hours, translating; a child who has labored with crayons to draw that wonderful picture of your family; our amazing Creator God speaking the beautiful world into existence.

The Psalms are full of the poetry of God’s work. I’m so glad Scripture didn’t just stop with the books of the law, aren’t you? We need poetry to help our imagination, and Biblical poetry to sanctify our imagination. We need to picture creation as God-the-Artist did, everything perfect, beautiful, majestic – drenched  in his affectionate satisfaction and ready to host those he would make in his image. An incredible, hospitable gift.

PRAYER: Triune God, you do all things well. My heart is grieved that the humans you placed at the center don’t always see that. Forgive us, forgive our generation, forgive our nation, forgive our children. Oh artist of the ages, recreate us! You are able if only we are willing.
