THOUGHT: Thomas Jefferson would surely be surprised that states are finding it necessary to write laws that forbid educators from teaching that the color of your skin, if white, means you are automatically racist, or that the United States was founded to perpetuate slavery; underscoring that it was, in fact, founded on the principle that each human life has dignity, “all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness,” another phrase Jefferson penned for the Declaration of Independence. However riddled our history is with wrong turns and poor choices, those words have consistently been used to chart a better course.
As I consider all that is happening in the educational system, and not only there, but in the halls and boardrooms of corporations and government as that thorny word “re-education” enters, I am constantly reminded that our struggle is not against flesh and blood. There is a spiritual battle being waged against the soul of our nation. I have seen it firsthand in my children’s lives, from middle school through college. Love of country is “educated” out; virtue is “educated” out. What began as sensitivity to all races and cultures has disintegrated to inclusion for all vices, new structures, and a new order of government that Jefferson would weep over.
People of God, put on your spiritual armor so you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand.
PRAYER: Triune God, we pray to you from this spiritual battleground – you are our only help in the battle against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. Help us arm ourselves daily with spiritual weapons and then stand our ground. Make us wise with your education about right and wrong, and help us cling to what you teach us.
