Gray Hair

SCRIPTURE: Even to your old age and gray hairs I am he, I am he who will sustain you. I have made you and I will carry you; I will sustain you and I will rescue you. Isaiah 46:4 NIV

THOUGHT: Fortunately, there are a few passages in Scripture that talk about gray hair in a positive light, or I might still be trying to change my own. Solomon says it is earned in the way of righteousness and compares it to the glory of strength in the young. Think about that before you pluck that next one out!

Isaiah records the words of God, however, not man. This might be one of the best promises in all of Scripture, don’t you think? God committing again to his creation – despite all of history. Despite our own broken promises. Despite the stain that runs deep through even the best of us. Despite the weakness of old age, the forgetfulness, the new fears and complexities we can’t solve with strength.

What God has made, God will sustain, carry, and rescue as necessary.

PRAYER: Oh God, thank you for your faithfulness throughout life here on earth. Thank you for promises that remind us we are fearfully and wonderfully made by you, and never, ever forgotten or abandoned.

  1. When the gray hairs first started putting in an appearance in my mop, that was my thought as well: wisdom at last!
