SCRIPTURE: This is what the Lord says, he who made the earth, the Lord who formed it and established it—the Lord is his name: ‘Call to me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know.’ Jeremiah 33:2-3 NIV
THOUGHT: It is three-quarters into Jeremiah’s book before God grants the so-called ‘weeping prophet’ relief from prophesying war and destruction. That is the context for this promise. First God establishes who he is and why his promise can be trusted. God created, formed and established the earth and it is his to re-create, re-form and re-establish everything in it. He knows its secrets, its pathways, and its people and the things they try to hide. He knows the remnant and his plans for good. God alone can reveal to Jeremiah – and others who love him and call him Lord – great and unsearchable things that cannot be known in human wisdom or intelligence. Even in the midst of personal or whole-world trauma, God can offer a taste of hope, a glimpse of joy and restoration ahead. A table prepared in the midst of enemies.
Lord, I want to be in the number of the saints who taste and see the unsearchable!

PRAYER: You ask for faith, Lord. Simple, really, and yet so difficult. Give us what we need this day to press forward on the journey. And, as we call to you, open our ears and eyes to glimpses of hope and great and unsearchable things.
