SCRIPTURE: And he is the head of the body, the church; he is the beginning and the firstborn from among the dead, so that in everything he might have the supremacy. Colossians 1:18 NIV

THOUGHT: First, Jesus is firstborn over all creation (vs. 15). Then, he is the head of the church. Then that curious phrase, “he is the beginning and the firstborn from among the dead.” Maybe Paul is hinting at the fact that Jesus is only the first among us to experience resurrection? The beginning of a long line of grateful resurectees. As such, Jesus gained rightful supremacy, but where does that leave us who love him? Still resurrected, in glorious, unfailing bodies, full of God’s glory, no sorrow or sadness, and ready to live forever.

PRAYER: Jesus, you are our leader, supreme in every way. But, wow, how glad we are to be followers into resurrected, perfected life – life as God intended it to be from the beginning.
