Peek-A-Boo

SCRIPTURE: Nothing in all creation is hidden from God’s sight. Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of him to whom we must give account. Hebrews 4:13NIV

THOUGHT: It’s so much fun to play peek-a-boo or hide-and-seek with a toddler. You alternately cover and reveal your eyes, and they laugh in surprise and delight. To them, you are hidden if you cover your eyes, and if you ask them to hide, they will often try to hide just their little faces.

In a way, we try that game with God even as adults – only without the laughter and delight.

The thought for today is why try to hide – whether it’s by hiding our eyes and pretending away God’s own, or sewing together fig leaves to cover a body when it’s a soul in danger? God knows it all anyway, so why not talk to him about it rather than trying to play some kind of game.

PRAYER: God-who-sees, El Roi, if you required perfection you would have looked away long ago. Your word says you desire truth in my inmost parts, so help me not play games of hide-and-seek with you, but hold on to the truth with one hand and your grace with the other.
