SCRIPTURE: Without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him. Hebrews 11:6 NIV
THOUGHT: When it’s baking, you start with flour, sugar and butter (unfortunately); when it’s trucks, you start with engines, chassis, and wheels. These are the basics, and you don’t build without them.
When it comes to God, faith is the single most important ingredient. Scripture says without trust and belief, relationship with an invisible God is impossible. If you’re going to engage with God, you must believe that he exists. That’s a lot different than assembling a bunch of parts you can taste or see, and yet those exact words are the Psalmist’s invitation: “Taste and see that the Lord is good; blessed is the one who takes refuge in him (Ps. 34:8).”
There’s a gift attached to both the Hebrews and the Psalms verses: If you earnestly seek God, there are rewards. If you take refuge in him, you are blessed. Even in the basics, God makes promises to those who take the leap – again, and again, into tasting and trusting what they cannot see.
PRAYER: Father God, yes, we must sometimes leap, but sometimes, miraculously, you assist us even in our faith. Help us not make half-hearted attempts, but earnestly seek you, grateful every moment for the refuge and blessings you provide us leapers.
