Life=Relationship

SCRIPTURE: You put him in charge of everything human so he might give real and eternal life to all in his care. And this is the real and eternal life: That they know you, the one and only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you sent. John 17:2-3 MSG

THOUGHT: Typically, when I think of the gift of eternal life, I think of a place – the opportunity to live in the kingdom of God rather than the kingdoms of this world. But in Jesus’ prayer for his disciples (and all who would come after them), it sounds more like eternal life is the gift of a relationship rather than a destination. The opportunity to really know the Triune God is the essence of eternal life.

We are already living out eternal life. The not yet is ours now. Old things and ways and realities have passed away. We’re on a path to a destination, yes, but the bigger deal is the incredible opportunity of a relationship with God, opened to us by the Son and the Spirit.

PRAYER: What a thought oh God: Because of the gift of Jesus, I am able to live forever in relationship with you, the eternal God.
