Remnants

NOTE: We are moving next Monday and Tuesday and I will be taking the week off. Instead of writing this weekday devotional (which I am so grateful to do!), I am going to ask if you will cover Fred and I with prayer? Getting everything sorted and packed has been a huge process, and we still have a way to go before the truck arrives Monday. Talk to you again on the other end — Monday, November 1.

SCRIPTURE: Wake up! Strengthen what remains and is about to die, for I have found your deeds unfinished in the sight of my God. Remember, therefore, what you have received and heard; hold it fast, and repent. Revelation 3:2-3 NIV

THOUGHT: My mother liked to sew. She had a great machine and made some pretty amazing things over the years. But, as it goes with many crafters, we love the idea of our craft as much as the craft itself. Mom had a stack of remnants that filled a cedar chest. Bits of fabric from a dress, old jeans she cut apart and saved for quilts, that 3 yards of gingham on sale, the satin she couldn’t bear to throw out…you get the picture. As a creative soul, you just never know when you’re going to need those scraps.

Remnants are important to God, too — souls persistent in prayer and persevering in faith even when the going is hard. The remnant who believe that long-suffering is a fruit of the Spirit as much as love, joy, and peace. Today’s word is come fully awake, all is not lost, strengthen what remains, and never let go of your faith.

PRAYER: God, help us love our remnant status, not become weary in doing good, and remember that at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. (Gal. 6:9 NIV)
