SCRIPTURE: Tremble before him, all the earth! The world is firmly established; it cannot be moved. Let the heavens rejoice, let the earth be glad; let them say among the nations, “The Lord reigns!” Let the sea resound, and all that is in it; let the fields be jubilant, and everything in them! Let the trees of the forest sing, let them sing for joy before the Lord, for he comes to judge the earth. 1 Chronicles 16:30-33 NIV
THOUGHT: Paul once observed, “Since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that people are without excuse (Rom. 1:20).” Add that to David’s many words (and other Biblical poets too) about heaven’s rejoicing, earth being glad, sea resounding, fields being jubilant, and trees singing – in this case because the Lord is coming to judge the earth. Creation tells the truth in such a beautiful way.
Perhaps today if you can find no other reason to rejoice, be glad, give a shout, be jubilant, or sing, you can go outside and watch nature do it. Perhaps the singing of the trees will remind you that the world is firmly established, no matter what humans say or do. Some things never change, and as David would sing in verse 34 of this song: “Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; his love endures forever.”

PRAYER: As so much around me changes, Lord, help me take a cue from the beauty of earth, sky, sea, fields and trees and the truth they sing. These you have given me as reminders that your eternal power and divine nature CAN be seen and known, no matter what all the talking heads are saying.
