The Great Reversal

SCRIPTURE: Here’s what will happen if you don’t obediently listen to the Voice of God, your God…. God will send The Curse, The Confusion, The Contrariness down on everything you try to do until you’ve been destroyed and there’s nothing left of you—all because of your evil pursuits that led you to abandon me. God will infect you with The Disease, wiping you right off the land that you’re going in to possess. Deuteronomy 28:15, 20-21 MSG

THOUGHT: We don’t really like to think of God in these terms, do we? We want to read and speak of love to a thousand generations. Of blessing, not cursing, confusion, and contrariness. But long before the people of God ever walked away from their Redeemer, Moses promised a great reversal of the blessings provided them would follow if they did. The blessings would all come undone if the love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul, mind and strength came undone. Read the chapter this morning if you have time – it’s almost a word-for-word repeal. So, they had advance notice and warning, but it just wasn’t enough.

The thought for today is how quickly love can turn into indifference – and blessings to curses. Don’t let your love grow cold.

PRAYER: As I look around culture today, Lord, I see a great reversal. The love for other gods – with no rules to keep about loving you, loving others and loving self – is gaining power, and the blessings are coming undone. I am thirsty for a different great reversal, a great awakening to how your rule leads to human flourishing. A great reversal of The Curse, The Confusion, and The Contrariness. Come, Lord Jesus, Come.
