Thanksgiving Meditation 2: Come, Ye Thankful People, Come

SCRIPTURE: As long as the earth endures, seedtime and harvest, cold and heat, summer and winter, day and night will never cease. Genesis 8:22 NIV

THOUGHT: God’s promise that seedtime and harvest would never cease comes on the heels of the flood and God’s observation, “Never again will I curse the ground because of humans, even though every inclination of the human heart is evil from childhood (v. 21). God understands the human predicament, but won’t make the earth pay for it.

Harvest season brings a poignant reminder that everyone who plants and harvests or enjoys the fruit of our beautiful earth is participating in a miracle. We don’t just get to take a holiday, we are compelled to take time out and realize the truth of the season – Not to us, Lord, not to us but to your name be the glory, because of your love and faithfulness (Psalm 115:1 NIV)

PRAYER: May we pause each day, Lord, thankful for the miracle we participate in as we enjoy the fruit of your earth.
