SCRIPTURE: I will give you thanks in the great assembly; among the throngs I will praise you. Psalm 35:18 NIV
THOUGHT: If you read all of Psalm 35, you’ll see the whole thing is about David pleading with God to fight on his behalf against enemies he cannot see, didn’t predict, and stands in danger from. But, among 28 verses of shock and agony, sit a few verses, including verse 18, that promise when God delivers, David will give public thanksgiving.
Public worship is the language of those whom God has delivered, and however challenging life gets, gathering together with those who love God and you – the great assembly – is a way to both build your faith and express your gratitude. So, if you feel surrounded by enemies you can’t see, didn’t predict, and feel danger from, pray Psalm 35, and promise to go to public with your praise.
SONG: We Gather Together https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JaSQ-z4u8t8. We gather together to ask the Lord’s blessing; He chastens and hastens His will to make known; The wicked oppressing now cease from distressing; Sing praises to His Name; He forgets not His own. — Anonymous Author, 1597
PRAYER: Jesus, your Word instructs us to not neglect our meeting together, as some people do, but instead encourage one another, especially now that the day of your return is drawing near (Heb. 10:25). As we gather in homes and worship services during the next week, would you remind us of all the deliverance we’ve experienced and give us hope for all that is to come? May you be lifted high by our public praises.
