SCRIPTURE: Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good! His faithful love endures forever. Give thanks to the God of gods. His faithful love endures forever. Give thanks to the Lord of lords. His faithful love endures forever. Give thanks to him who alone does mighty miracles. His faithful love endures forever. Give thanks to him who made the heavens so skillfully. His faithful love endures forever. Give thanks to him who placed the earth among the waters. His faithful love endures forever. Give thanks to him who made the heavenly lights—His faithful love endures forever. the sun to rule the day, His faithful love endures forever. and the moon and stars to rule the night. His faithful love endures forever. Psalm 136:1-9 NLT
THOUGHT: Psalm 136 is a persistent, holy reminder that this is God’s world, after all is said and done. These first nine verses deal with who God is and what he has made – and each new miracle is bookended by the call to “give thanks to him” and the reminder that “his faithful love endures forever.” If you sang all 26 verses, you would have sung “his faithful love endures forever” 26 times (and we think today’s worship leaders sing the same chorus over and over too many times)! It’s gets into your head and heart, and no surprise, you wake up singing it for more than few days. God’s faithful love can be depended on.
As we go down the tunnel to the holidays, don’t let the big picture get lost in the hundreds of details and sideshows. Don’t let it get swallowed in the fear and chaos of shipping delays and shortages and civil unrest. Take a deep breath and look beyond what mankind has wrought. This is our Father’s world, and to our listening ears all nature sings and ‘round us rings the music of the spheres.

PRAYER: Jesus, you taught Peter to keep his eyes off the waves and on the miracle of you. Please teach us the same. You are the Lord of the wind and waves and we give you thanks for that truth.
