Leapfrog & Advent

SCRIPTURE: He came to that which was his own, but his own did not receive him. Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God— children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband’s will, but born of God. John 1:11-13 NIV

The first advent of Jesus brought a lot of light into the world, but many people missed it. Light is helpful, even miraculous the way it exposes everything — from the beautiful, to the mundane, to the downright evil. Journey with author and blogger Amy Clemens as she explores the advent of one who said he was the light of the world…a light that shines in darkness…that exposes. A light that will make a second advent, with a power and glory no one will miss.

THOUGHT: So, what do Leapfrog and Advent have in common? Both involve getting ahead on someone else’s back. Because of Advent, we get the rights and privileges and inheritance of being children of God without the birthright. We leap over law and judgement and ethnicity on the back of a savior who knelt, so to speak, so we could jump, going straight to forgiveness and grace and being sons and daughters.

Forget your human inheritance for a minute, your natural descent, the human decisions that led to your birth, the man listed on your birth certificate. Maybe those circumstances are great and you’ll have a fabulous inheritance – but maybe they aren’t and your inheritance is questionable, non-existent, or something you want to run from, not toward. Forget it all, because you’ve been given the right, not just the privilege, of calling the God of the Universe your Father.

PRAYER: Thank you, God of the Universe, for a child – your biological son and the only one capable – who left glory for sons and daughters who wouldn’t even recognize him, and passed along to me the right to leap over law and judgement and ethnicity to become your child, and a rightful heir/heiress of your kingdom.

Dear Reader,
I’m glad you’re along and I pray you will be blessed, challenged, and encouraged in your faith by something you read here.
