SCRIPTURE: Out of his fullness we have all received grace in place of grace already given. For the law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ. John 1:16-17 NIV

The first advent of Jesus brought a lot of light into the world, but many people missed it. Light is helpful, even miraculous the way it exposes everything — from the beautiful, to the mundane, to the downright evil. Journey with author and blogger Amy Clemens as she explores the advent of one who said he was the light of the world…a light that shines in darkness…that exposes. A light that will make a second advent, with a power and glory no one will miss.
THOUGHT: Maybe encountering Jesus is a little like finding a waterfall, especially if you happen to be an ordinary Jew (or legalistic Christian!), bowed down under the law, terrified of God’s righteousness and holiness (see Heb. 12:18-21). But Jesus fulfilled all of the law out of his fullness! Grace on grace, truth on truth, like water, cascading down, bubbling over rocks and around trees and over the edge of an overhang, droplets left hanging in the air, making rainbows if the sun is just right and draping you in cool mist.
Even Jesus used a water metaphor to describe what he offered: “Whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give them will become in them a spring of water welling up to eternal life (John 4:14 NIV).”
Jesus is full of grace and truth. You can’t exhaust it, it keeps flowing, like water over the falls. And when we decide to drink of that grace and truth, it changes us from the inside, out. Living water. New life. New creatures. Forever.
PRAYER: Jesus, thank you that you never gave out of emptiness. You gave, and gave, and keep giving, out of the incredible fullness you received. Grace on grace. Truth on truth. Thank you that you bring living water with you when you come to live inside of us, making miracles out of the mundane.
