The Old Order

SCRIPTURE: And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Look! God’s dwelling place is now among the people, and he will dwell with them. They will be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God. ‘He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death’ or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.” Revelation 21:3-4/Isaiah 25:8 NIV

THOUGHT: There are an awful lot of people clamoring for a new world order.  A great reset, they say. But from here, it looks a lot like disorder. Stop using common sense and critical thinking. Give the powerful carte blanche control, no questions. Put honest people in prison without bail and let criminals go free. Reward violence and looting and lying and cheating, and punish outspoken or contrary opinions and attempts to right what is wrong. Kill the vulnerable while advancing technologies to help people live forever. Let boards and unions and ideologues set policy for morality, and, for heaven’s sake, don’t let God’s rules for human flourishing into the schools or hospitals or halls of government.

Ugh. Not world order at all. Chaos.

Maybe all this clamor is why Revelation specifically promises, “a loud voice from the throne.” It will need to be loud. God will speak, and it will be louder than the shot heard round the world. Things will go very quiet. The old order will indeed pass away, with all its violence, avarice, and hidden agendas, and the only, truly great reset will begin. No tears. No death. No pain. No mourning. All ever, only joy.

PRAYER: Someday, oh God, the rescue you started so long ago will be complete. Death and the sin that gave birth to it, and all the pain and sorrow that came after it, will be swallowed up. You will dwell with us and we with you, never to be separated again. “Amen. Come, Lord Jesus (Rev. 22:20).”
