SCRIPTURE: Even to your old age and gray hairs I am he, I am he who will sustain you. I have made you and I will carry you; I will sustain you and I will rescue you. Isaiah 46:4 NIV
THOUGHT: Creator. Shepherd. Sustainer. Rescuer.
In just a few poignant words, God speaks volumes, reminding his people of who he is and promising them what he will do. These promises of God’s everlasting love extend to you and me too, and what tremendous gifts they are!
God didn’t just knit me together in my mother’s womb then leave me to fend for myself. He came and found me when I got lost. He made sure I had food and water and shelter and rest – and will continue to do it to my old age and gray hairs (of which I have plenty!). And he didn’t just create, shepherd and sustain – he rescued me from sin and death in a shocking plan that cost him instead of me. If you could tell me your stories (and I’d love to hear them all!), I’m pretty certain you could tell of more than one rescue. I know I can.
Take a few minutes now to consider this great promise of God and how it has already been fulfilled in your life. Then consider all that is to come: how he has promised to carry, sustain, and rescue you into the future, beyond any anxiety, any fear, any weakness, delivering you to a life you can’t begin to imagine.

PRAYER: Why, oh God, do you make such promises to us? If ever I need a reason to worship, it’s always because you are God and we are not. None but a good God would make and deliver on such promises. None but a good God would love us now, after all our failed attempts to love him in return. I worship you alone, great Triune God!
