SCRIPTURE: Although the whole earth is mine, you will be for me a kingdom of priests and a holy nation. Exodus 19:5-6 NIV
THOUGHT: For years I gave lip service to the existence of God. He existed, but I didn’t really understand what that meant. He existed, but was he good, and didn’t I belong to myself? I never really perceived myself as wrestling with the one who had full right to my time, my talent, my life, yet didn’t demand it. I could go my own way – and I did, and what a disaster ensued. As I’ve grown, it’s gotten easier to accept what Paul preached to the Corinthians: You are not your own; you were bought at a price (1 Cor. 6:19-20).
The promise is that everything belongs to God – the earth is the Lord’s, and everything in it, the world, and all who live in it (Psalm 24:1). Our whole system of human rights is flawed if we take God out of the equation, and that is what we see happening around us. We have to start with the truth, or we wind up with chaos.
PRAYER: This is your world, Great God of the Universe. Forgive me for the wrestling I’ve done, and still do, to find a corner that’s all mine. Your world, your way. Your will be done.
