SCRIPTURE: See, I will create new heavens and a new earth. The former things will not be remembered, nor will they come to mind. Isaiah 65:17 NIV
THOUGHT: This promise is so big I think it actually gets ignored sometimes. We simply can’t fathom what God is talking about, so we shy away from it. I know the theologians have their talking points, but maybe none of us will quite understand until the day we find ourselves there. The trick will be to remember what it was like the day before so we have something to compare it to…. But wait – we will be so blessedly happy, the former things won’t be remembered, nor will they come to mind. That day, there will be a great reversal. We’ll go from needing to remember God’s work in the past as encouragement, to not being able to remember the past at all. There’ll be long, happy life and no grief (v. 20). A home that feels like home and work that is fulfilling (v. 21-22). Children who don’t experience misfortune, but rather joy and blessing (v. 23). A relationship with God so close he answers before we call (v. 24). Lions and lambs and wolves and oxen all eating out of the same feeding trough, no fear of harm among or between the animal and human (v.25).
Do I believe God can do this? Absolutely. Do I hope this happens soon? Absolutely10. This is not a fairy tale – this is the God of the Universe, and this is his promise. Renewal. Restoration. Redemption for humans and nature. And things once so critical and valuable and scary and shattering, forgotten.

PRAYER: Thank you for the promise of a Creator who can make all things, then make them all new again – so wonderful we won’t even remember what the old was like. Even so, come quickly Lord Jesus.
