SCRIPTURE: But [God] said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” 2 Corinthians 12:9 NIV
THOUGHT: Kenosis is the theological term (Greek) for an emptying of oneself. In Philippians 2:7, Paul talks about Christ emptying himself by becoming a servant. The difference between me and Jesus here is that he did it willingly, with intent, with passion. So often I find myself feeling empty against my will. I can’t seem to give of myself like I used to. My body is aging, my mind seems to have a mind of its own (lol), and my soul seems to be missing vitality. I press on, but I feel empty, and I long to be in step with Jesus, who embodied kenosis with such glory.
In the end, I’m so glad the same Paul had a conversation with God where he pleaded for the thorn in his flesh to be removed and got an answer that spills down through time to you and me, no matter what the weakness we struggle with is: My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.

PRAYER: What a miracle, oh God, that when I yield my empty self to you, you hide me inside this great, unending fullness of your own. Help me to trust more than wrestle.
