Psalm 91: The Conclusion

SCRIPTURE:  He will call on me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble, I will deliver him and honor him. With long life I will satisfy him and show him my salvation. Psalm 91:15-16 NIV

THOUGHT: These final two verses of Psalm 91 are actually a continuation of the verse I wrote about yesterday. “Because he loves me…,” God says, “I will rescue him; I will protect him, for he acknowledges my name (v 14).”

You just can’t overstate the importance of real love for all of God. Not observing a religion. Not practicing a form of Godliness but denying its power. Not making an idol of him. Not running in fear. Not turning away because he asks too much, or disrespecting him because he doesn’t rule with an iron fist. The promises of Psalm 91 are for those who dwell in his presence and find rest (v 1), trust him enough to make him refuge and fortress (v 2), and love him enough to revere his name. These will receive all of the promised protection of mighty God (v 3-15) and the bonus of a long life that satisfies. These will be “shown” God’s salvation – they won’t just read about it, think about it, or dream about it. They will look and see what a difference his presence makes as they face each day.

PRAYER: Oh God, you are great and holy, and your promises are a taste of heaven. How blessed are those who find real relationship with you.

NOTE: It’s the final entry of this short series on Psalm 91, and wow – it’s the final day of June too. How fast time flies, whether you’re having fun or not. In July, as last July, I’m planning to write on the intersection between faith and freedom, and when that’s done, I’ll just go back to series-less (if that’s a word) writing. I hope this 6-month Promises of God series has challenged and blessed you to trust God even more deeply. Next year, Words of Hope devotional guide will publish a selection of them, and I hope you’ll watch for those (https://www.woh.org/author/amy-clemens/).

Dear Reader,
I’m glad you’re along and I pray you will be blessed, challenged, and encouraged in your faith by something you read here.
