SCRIPTURE: The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands. Day after day they pour forth speech; night after night they reveal knowledge. They have no speech, they use no words; no sound is heard from them. Yet their voice goes out into all the earth, their words to the ends of the world. Psalm 19:1-4 NIV
QUOTE: The man who reads nothing at all is better educated than the man who reads nothing but newspapers. – Thomas Jefferson, 3rd President of the United States, Author, Declaration of Independence
THOUGHT: This is will be last devo for July. For almost two-and-a-half years, I’ve poured forth speech here – the kind that uses words. I never thought I could do such a thing, but God has faithfully met me each morning. What a treat, and what a journey. But the day has come when I need to stop everything but listening to the speech poured forth from the heavens – the God whose glory they are proclaiming and whose knowledge they are revealing. No more newspapers for a bit – just skies and trees and mountains and waters and words from God.

Thanks to so many of you who’ve written notes over these years. It’s encouraging to know you’re reading along, and that God is using the words and the Word poured forth here on earth too. I hope to return August 1, but in the meantime, please pray with me for God’s speech to pour forth — into all of us!
PRAYER: Oh God, thank you for freedom. I celebrate it now by taking time to rest and recreate, to revel in your glory and speech all around me. Silence and the Word all wound up together, proclaiming the work of your hands. Knowledge that I don’t have to pay for – I just have to stop long enough to look.
