SCRIPTURE: Because the Sovereign Lord helps me, I will not be disgraced. Therefore have I set my face like flint, and I know I will not be put to shame. Isaiah 50:7 NIV
THOUGHT: Isaiah the prophet went through a lot – at God’s hest and at men’s hands. Not light reading to be sure. For the sake of God’s love for people, he became undignified, dirty, a laughing stock. He never gave up trying to communicate God’s messages about righteousness, repentance, and judgement using his voice and his very body to convey everything God said to him.
You see, Isaiah had seen the Lord, high and lifted up (Isaiah 6), and he was a thoroughly convinced – and repentant – man. He knew how big God is, and he knew that no matter what God asked and how humans responded, he ultimately wouldn’t be disgraced or put to shame. That was the secret to Isaiah’s steadfast faith. He set his face like flint, not because he was some supernatural superhero, but because God showed up big and gave him a glimpse of who it is that loves the world – and it caused Isaiah to put his life in proper perspective.
How has God showed up for you?
PRAYER: Oh God, we worship you, the living, Triune God. Your greatness puts our smallness in perspective, but your promises elevate us again. Because you help us, we will not be disgraced.
