When God Frees the Feet

SCRIPTURE:  The Lord confides in those who fear him; he makes his covenant known to them. My eyes are ever on the Lord, for only he will release my feet from the snare. Psalm 25:14-15 NIV

THOUGHT: The world might call it crazy, but I don’t. I’ve experienced the way God releases feet from traps too many times to call it anything short of awe-inspiring. Amazing. Only God knows how, where, and when to end the hold of whatever ensnares you.

There was a period of time when my life seemed like an ugly minefield, filled with booby-traps. Hence, a slight but very real case of PTSD. When every footstep seems like it might be your last, you get a little gun-shy. I’m glad it’s over, but does it sound strange to say I can find grace in the fact that it happened? I’ll acknowledge I’m a little beat up and a lot less naïve, but the thing is, that minefield (much of it my own fault!) is where I learned to listen to and trust God. I learned to fear God more than my human circumstances. I learned to say “forgive me” and “help me.” Like David – who had many enemies and frequent unsolvable challenges – I learned about the covenant from boot camp, not a book. I kept my eyes on God, he confided in me where to step (sometimes air lifting me out), and the covenant was made known. When Jesus says, “I came to bring life, and to the full,” I understand it in a bigger way than I used to.

God will free your feet from whatever snares you too, because he loves life, and he loves you.

PRAYER: Oh God, help us come to the place of fearing you more than we fear our circumstances, then confide in us and make the covenant known as you free us to serve you.
