Testimony Against Death

SCRIPTURE: He will glorify and honor Me, because He (the Holy Spirit) will take from what is Mine and will disclose it to you. All things that the Father has are Mine. Because of this I said that He [the Spirit] will take from what is Mine and will reveal it to you. John 16:14-15 AMP

QUOTE: “Our lives are to be a testimony against death.” – Jonathan Cahn, Pastor and Author, The Harbinger, The Harbinger II

THOUGHT: I think I’ve glossed over John 16:14-15 many times, not really leaning into what Jesus is saying here about the Holy Spirit. Jesus offers that the Holy Spirit will, among other things, serve as a sort of intermediary, borrowing from the storehouse that belongs to Jesus (everything) and offering its treasures to us, “revealing” it to, in, and through us. Wow.

Chapters earlier, John opened his Gospel telling us what Jesus consists of: In Him was life [and the power to bestow life], and the life was the Light of men (Jn. 1:4).

So when the Holy Spirit offers us something from that treasury, it’s about life, not death, not oppression, not bondage – it’s the revelation of life and where to find it. Like Jonathan Cahn says, our lives as Christians are to be a testimony against death. By the Holy Spirit of God, we grow fruit in a desert, find peace in the midst of turmoil, and trust a Savior who snatches victory from defeat. We live, here and now, and we will live forever – in a place where all the life we’ve borrowed from Jesus will one day be experienced exponentially.

PRAYER: Oh God, I love knowing that the Holy Spirit, who lives in me, borrows from the storehouse that belongs to Jesus Christ, the resurrected and living Lord, and gives to me that thing which I cannot make on my own: life. Help my life be a testimony against death.
