S(word) to the Invisible

SCRIPTURE: For though we live in the world, we do not wage war as the world does. The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds. We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ. 2 Cor. 10:3-5 NIV

THOUGHT: On the contrary. A little phrase meant to stop you and make you pay attention. In this case, it’s to receive instruction on the key difference between worldly and spiritual weapons: divine power. I am a little awe-inspired to think of such power lent to me by our savior, and am reminded that it is not power to be wielded at people because our battle is not against flesh and blood (Eph. 6:12).

The Message translates verse 4: The tools of our trade aren’t for marketing or manipulation, but they are for demolishing that entire massively corrupt culture. We use our powerful God-tools for smashing warped philosophies, tearing down barriers erected against the truth of God, fitting every loose thought and emotion and impulse into the structure of life shaped by Christ.

What grabs me most is that our weapons, our “tools of the trade,” wreak havoc in an invisible empire. We may not be able to even see the damage they’ve done, but we can witness the fruit in our own lives as we demolish a “massively corrupt culture” of marketing and manipulation, warped philosophies that are set against God – the world’s system.

How are you using your s(word)?

PRAYER: Thank you for divine power, oh God, for trusting us enough to share a weapon more powerful than those the world wields. Help me keep it trained on warped philosophies set against your truth, and not on people, the way the world does.
