SCRIPTURE: Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you. 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 ESV
THOUGHT: Finding God’s will can often be made too mysterious. We make it about getting somewhere, marrying someone, making the right decision. But Paul boils it down for even a bear of little brain, and it’s not really a destination – it’s who you become along the way. Be grateful. Find the good and be glad about it. Pray without ceasing. This is an invitation to be right in the center of God’s will. To live out all our moments talking and listening to our Creator, learning to look with his eyes on the world.
Paul encourages us that God’s will, in fact, is not only that we pray about everything, but gratefully so, because the very essence of prayer is an acknowledgement that we trust in a God bigger than any need in the world. And that’s something to smile about right now, no matter what else is going on.
PRAYER: Oh God, I thank you that every ordinary moment can be shared with you — the God who desires, indeed wills, such conversation. Help me trust you in every circumstance, so much so that I feel joy and gratitude rising up in me.
