SCRIPTURE: No, we declare God’s wisdom, a mystery that has been hidden and that God destined for our glory before time began. 1 Cor. 2:7 NIV
THOUGHT: I have been called a conspiracy theorist, and in fact, I accede. Even as a child, I had the stain of suspicion running through my veins — part nature, part nurture likely. As a journalist, my training taught me to look for the story under the story. Who and what influences our lives while we are unaware? What are the politicians and power-mongers and scientists not telling us?
My skepticism gave me problems in my faith journey, for I distrusted even God. But, unlike government, culture, and media, God has proven to be honest. He has won my trust, even when he doesn’t tell me the whole story, which is most of the time.
God’s is the “deeper magic,” spoken of by C.S. Lewis in the Chronicles of Narnia; the mysteries hidden and destined for our glory before time began says Paul. Don’t miss those words – read them again.
The rulers of this age don’t understand those mysteries any more today than the ones who ruled 2,000 years ago: trusting someone you can’t see, can’t manipulate to get your way, or can’t kill to get out of your way is foolishness to the world. But when our faith journey begins, the Holy Spirit teaches us the wisdom of God. The deep mystery of Jesus gets clearer as we climb, trust, hope, and love who he is and what he’s done for us – for our glory!? Incredible.
PRAYER: God of all mysteries, reveal more of your great heart and plan to us as we move closer to you on this journey the world calls foolish.
