SCRIPTURE: He knows us far better than we know ourselves, knows our pregnant condition, and keeps us present before God. Romans 8:27 MSG
THOUGHT: Maybe the Thanksgiving season is the perfect time to think about being so full you’re uncomfortable. Men, bear a moment with my female illustration….
I was at my swimming aerobics class one day years ago with a very pregnant woman. Even in the water, she had to finally slow down to all the “jump faster” and “lift your knees higher” commands of our drill sergeant instructor. Because pregnancy, while an exhilarating experience, is often awkward and tiring. Movement becomes increasingly cumbersome, even in water, and dreams of new babies carry us through long days and longer, sleepless nights.
Imagine for a moment that all your hopes and dreams of life the way God planned it are filling up your insides (instead of Thanksgiving dinner or some other temporary food fix). You lug them around with you, feeling awkward and tired, longing for the day they are born into reality. You are aching, waiting for the completion of what you know life could and should be like, to the point of not even knowing how or what to pray. Wordless sighs and groans are the best communication you can trump up.
This is what a pregnant condition looks like: life, filling us up, sometimes uncomfortably, while we wait for fruition.
Thank God the Spirit understands our condition and keeps us present to God, interceding, as does Jesus – powerfully working out for our good even what we believe is impossible.
PRAYER: Triune God, thank you for hopes and dreams of something we cannot yet touch or hold on to. Thank you Spirit and Son that you are there ahead, praying us through our delivery to more than we could hope or imagine.
