SCRIPTURE: Then those who feared the Lord talked with each other, and the Lord listened and heard. A scroll of remembrance was written in his presence concerning those who feared the Lord and honored his name. Malachi 3:16 NIV
THOUGHT: I was in seminary the first time I heard the term “thin places” used to describe spaces where the presence of God is thick – a place between heaven and earth where the distance is small – like the spot where Jacob wrestled all night, or the one where Isaiah encountered God’s glory, or the burning bush for Moses. Don’t we all want a “thin place” experience? But consider for a moment this scripture from Malachi, and you begin to realize that every space where God-fearing men and women gather to talk with each other is holy ground. Even better than a thin place is the daily knowledge that we have an audience with the King as we fear the Lord and honor his name – and he listens, hears, and writes our names in his scroll of remembrance.
PRAYER: Oh God, perhaps there are thin places between you and I – and I hope to find them, but until that day, I glory in the truth that your Spirit lives inside of me, and when I gather with others to talk about your wonderful holiness, you listen and make notes.
