Psalm 90: Favor

SCRIPTURE:  Let Your work [the signs of Your power] be revealed to Your servants And Your [glorious] majesty to their children. And let the [gracious] favor of the Lord our God be on us; Confirm for us the work of our hands—Yes, confirm the work of our hands. Psalm 90:16-17 AMP

THOUGHT: Moses ends his eloquent prayer with a vast, expansive blessing. He is speaking to God, but in the same breath he is pronouncing a benediction over his people. It’s a big prayer, and my challenge today is to examine what kind of things we are praying for. Is the biggest prayer ever off your lips for protection? Do you ever pray for favor (or beauty, as the word is rendered in many translations)? What would your life look like if the beauty of the Lord was on you? And do you ever pray that the signs of God’s power will shock and awe you; that your children and their children’s eyes will be see God in his greatness and majesty – because if God answers that, it will change your life and faith. Do you ask the Triune God to confirm or establish the work you do each day, because that’s a bigger prayer than just protection.

Let’s don’t allow our prayers to become shallow and trite – remember who it is we’ve been given an audience with, and ask our Big God for revelation, favor, his beauty on us, and confirmation.

PRAYER: Oh God, may our eyes see your power, and may those who come behind us see your majesty so that they stand in awe of you too. Let your favor (and beauty!) be on us and confirm the work of our hands!
