Relief

SCRIPTURE:  Now may the God of peace make you holy in every way, and may your whole spirit and soul and body be kept blameless until our Lord Jesus Christ comes again. God will make this happen, for he who calls you is faithful. 1 Thessalonians 5:23-24 NLT

THOUGHT: God will make this happen, or as the NIV puts it, he will surely do it.

Doesn’t that phrase fill you up with anticipation and appreciation? First, I wonder how in the world will he do that? Then, I start to wonder why in the world would he do that? Then I get excited to watch God at work in my story. Then I get humbled by his goodness. Through it all flows a sense of relief – I’m not trying to make it all happen myself. I’ve tried that way and it’s exhausting and impossible. One of the meanings of the word relief is liberation, and I feel it.

The God of peace can make us holy in every way, keeping us, spirit, soul, and body, entirely blameless until that day. Not only can he, he will make it happen. It is his will. Of course we can resist, but if we align our will with his, he promises to do this work we could never do in our own strength.

I feel like shouting hallelujah!

PRAYER: Oh God, you are so big, and your will and purposes for us are so big. Help us align our will with yours and throw ourselves with abandon on your faithfulness.
