A, B, C, or All of the Above?

SCRIPTURE:  Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you. 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 ESV

THOUGHT: Conviction falls pretty hard when I read this verse.

I wish I could say “when I remember this verse,” but I rarely think of it when I’m struggling with A, B, C, or all of the above.  In those moments, I’m usually having a pity party and focused on you-know-who and not on rejoicing, prayer or gratitude.

I’ve known quite a few people who embody that old word, “ebullient.” Some of them are probably reading these words. Rather than complaining, they’re joyful. Rather than waiting for the other shoe to drop, they’re looking for the roses among the thorns (or the pony in the poop). And not in a fake-smile kind of way. I’m glad the faith has these people. They’re inspirational. I do think of them often, even before I remember this verse. They are like living Scriptures, reminding me that, whatever the circumstance, there is something to give thanks for, something to rejoice over, and time for unceasing prayer.

PRAYER: Oh God, thank you for so many friends, and so many saints who’ve gone before us living out ebullient spiritual lives. I humbly ask for your help to live out these words – they are your will for me too.

Dear Reader,
I’m glad you’re along and I pray you will be blessed, challenged, and encouraged in your faith by something you read here.
