SCRIPTURE: Do not despise these small beginnings, for the Lord rejoices to see the work begin, to see the plumb line in Zerubbabel’s hand. Zechariah 4:10 NLT
THOUGHT: Most things start out small, don’t they? People, animals, seeds, houses, and big buildings, to name a few. One cell on another. One brick on another. A little soil and water and sunshine. If all we see is one cell or one brick or one seed, it’s easy to laugh at the preposterous idea that it could become a human or a building or a redwood tree.
Zerubbabel was rebuilding the temple in Zechariah’s vision. All he had was a plumb line, a small, humble tool to keep things square. But God said don’t despise this small beginning – I’m rejoicing over it! You’re not going to believe what happens!
It’s a good thought as we begin a new day. God rejoices over small beginnings because he knows what can happen with a cell, a brick, or a seed.
PRAYER: Oh God, thank you that you don’t despise small beginnings; in fact, you rejoice over your plans long before they come to fruition! May it be so in our lives too.
