Promises of Freedom; Slaves of Corruption

SCRIPTURE:  They promise them freedom, but they themselves are slaves of corruption. For whatever overcomes a person, to that he is enslaved. 2 Peter 2:19 ESV

QUOTE: “When they say, ‘You’ll be happy,’ what they mean is ‘You’ll be enslaved.’ That’s why they’re talking about a Great Reset. That’s why they’re talking about introducing this quasi-communist, quasi-socialist agenda. They know we’ve run the course where we cannot continue down the path of the ever-increasing indebtedness because we have a generation that quite literally cannot afford to buy a house. And so it’s easy to tell that generation, ‘we’re going to forgive your college debt, and set your expectations lower. You’re going to rent forever. We’re going to celebrate the tiny house movement.’ We’re going to do all of these things which sound cool because they’re shaping our narrative so that we become capable of expecting less. What we need to do is not expect less. We need to remove inefficiencies so we can experience more. And that’s the subtle distinction that the Great Reset is missing.”

THOUGHT: I find it alarming when the communist dictator of a country in which some of the most severe human rights’ abuses in history are taking place, who has been on watch lists for years with the US State Department and Amnesty International, is openly touted by world leaders as someone to be admired. The US Department of State’s 2022 Report on Human Rights Practices in China, in its opening summary states: “Genocide and crimes against humanity occurred during the year against predominantly Muslim Uyghurs and members of other ethnic and religious minority groups in Xinjiang. These crimes were continuing and included: the arbitrary imprisonment or other severe deprivation of physical liberty of more than one million civilians; forced sterilization, coerced abortions, and more restrictive application of the country’s birth control policies; rape and other forms of sexual and gender-based violence; torture of a large number of those arbitrarily detained; and persecution including forced labor and draconian restrictions on freedom of religion or belief, freedom of expression, and freedom of movement.”

And that doesn’t even touch on the draconian lock-downs that country has practiced against their citizens, or the social credit scoring and surveillance that effectively render the Chinese people enslaved.

Yet in a November 2022 interview covered by The Post Millennial, Klaus Schwab, leader of the World Economic Forum and author of Covid 19: The Great Reset, called communist China “a very attractive model for quite a number of countries,” a sentiment echoed by his protégé, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau of Canada, who responded to a question from CBC News about which government he most admired with “the level of admiration I actually have for China.” [WEF interview here; Trudeau, The Great Awakening, 11:56]

Okay, I know that’s a lot of words about just one government in the world, when what I’ve set out to do here is write a devotional.

The point is that we are being promised freedom that is enslaving us at home in the US, and the Apostle Peter warned of that. They promise them freedom, but they themselves are slaves of corruption. For whatever overcomes a person, to that he is enslaved. Subscription-based everything is beginning to annoy me. I want to own my own MicroSoft word-processing software, not rent it for the rest of my life, and that’s just the tip of the iceberg. I grieve for our children who, even when pulling down larger salaries than their parents, cannot afford to buy a home and meanwhile watch rents spiral out of control. I grieve for our citizens who have invested pensions in corporations and monetary funds so enslaved to ESG that they are losing money. I grieve for young people who don’t understand the totalitarian agenda that is breathing down our necks every single day. But I also understand that this is the national and world moment for which the Marxists have been holding their breath: Create so much chaos and disruption that people who don’t understand what’s happening beg for someone to tell them what to do. It’s anti-freedom and anti-Christ.

And even those six words would have been enough to chew on today.

PRAYER: Oh God, forbid that we should be slaves of corruption! Free us that we may be free indeed (Jn 8:36).
