Undivided

SCRIPTURE:  Teach me your way, O LORD, that I may walk in your truth; unite my heart to fear your name. I give thanks to you, O Lord my God, with my whole heart, and I will glorify your name forever. For great is your steadfast love toward me; you have delivered my soul from the depths of Sheol. Psalm 86:11-13 ESV

THOUGHT: We live in a fractured age. Humanism has devolved into camps and tribes and “personal truth,” which simply means the way I feel about something right now. Stay tuned, culture says, my truth may change in the next few minutes. This is an invitation to chaos and confusion, and the author of that is none less than the enemy of souls.

In the midst of the fractured milieu, there is comfort in the words of the Psalmist (in this case David, King of Israel and man after God’s own heart). We aren’t alone in our search for truth unless we choose that, we can rely on God to teach us his ways and unite our fractured hearts into whole, undivided hearts. Unite my heart to fear your name, David cries out, then I will give thanks to you with my whole heart. In his steadfast love, God will answer our cry for wholeness (shalom), and we in turn will pour out our praise.
