To the Church in Philadelphia, Part 4: Hold fast.

SCRIPTURE:  I am coming soon. Hold fast what you have, so that no one may seize your crown. Revelation 5:11 ESV

THOUGHT: You know, I didn’t really understand for a long time that I needed to hold on to the things I fought for on this journey. Easy come, easy go has been a way of coping. I’ve been scared to hold on tight to anything really. The more you love it, the more it hurts when you lose it.

But Jesus.

Jesus has begun to change that penchant to let go so quick and run to hide when the going gets hard. I’ve started speaking up for what I believe, and standing firm in the truth that has rescued me. I’ve apprehended more of what has apprehended me (Phil. 3:12 KJV). I’ve been more ready to let go of things that hinder me.

When an army gains ground, they have to keep it, right? That’s the way it is with us. The downhill slide is always a footfall away, looking easier in many ways than fighting so hard to maintain victories. But, to use Paul’s analogy, we’re soldiers in active duty and we can’t afford to get entangled in the affairs of everyday life (2 Tim. 2:4).

So, stick a flag in the ground and hold on. In fact, as Jesus leads, take back more ground that the dang enemy has stolen. And remember, it’s not just the ground you’re holding, there’s a crown at stake too.

PRAYER: Oh God, give me new reasons each morning to hold on. Plant your truth deep and deeper still.
