SCRIPTURE: In him was life; and the life was the light of men. John 1:4 KJV
THOUGHT: I ponder the mystery of this verse just like I ponder a God who stooped down and breathed life into the first human. Life is God-breathed and sacred. John, as he begins to tell the story of Jesus, observes something about his friend before he tells the story. He had life in him, John says. And not just any life. The Life. And that life was so powerful it could provide light for mankind.
But where did John learn this?
Because Jesus was the Rabbi in whose dust he walked, the friend who called him from fishing to something more; the companion of early mornings, late nights, stormy waters, endless crowds, incredible healings. The one who, in his presence showed that he was very God of very God, God over matter, God over evil, God who is omniscient. Ultimately John would witness that Jesus was God over death. Jesus had life. So, when John finally put his pen to the paper two thousand years ago, four of the first words he wrote were in him was life.
If you need life today, stop looking for it anywhere else but in this death-defying, matter-bending, evil-impeding, miracle-working savior. He has life to give. He is life. His life is going to give you light you never had before, and nothing is going to be able to stop the life or the light he gives.

PRAYER: Oh God, I can’t help but think of the kind of light that is so powerful that your city has no need of sun or moon to shine on it, for your glory gives it light, and its lamp is the Lamb (Rev. 21:23). You are life and light, how could your son – your exact representation – be anything else?
