Christmas with John, 12: Grace for Grace

SCRIPTURE:  And of his fulness have all we received, and grace for grace. John 1:16 KJV

THOUGHT: John’s testimony of Jesus embodying grace and truth (v. 15) didn’t just stop with Jesus, and how glad that makes me. Like a river, it flowed out of his life and into mine. Out of his fullness, he’s given all humans grace and truth – and grace for grace, because humanity already had enjoyed God’s grace since the beginning of time – grace where death was deserved. But now, more undeserved favor. More understanding of his Father’s heart toward us. An opportunity to step into the river of life and be surrounded and filled and washed by Jesus in a way that our sin could no longer be seen by God. No longer would he need to turn away, no longer would he need to remember, no longer would he need to watch endless sacrifice as atonement. No, instead, grace for grace.

I pray today each of us will grasp just a little more of that grace upon grace, and move a little closer to a Savior full of grace and truth.

PRAYER: Jesus, thank you for the gifts of grace and truth that flow through you to each of us. Help us grasp more deeply how wide and long and high and deep your love is (Eph. 3:18).
