What’s next, Papa?

SCRIPTURE: This resurrection life you received from God is not a timid, grave-tending life. It’s adventurously expectant, greeting God with a childlike “What’s next, Papa?” God’s Spirit touches our spirits and confirms who we really are. We know who he is, and we know who we are: Father and children. And we know we are going to get what’s coming to us—an unbelievable inheritance! We go through exactly what Christ goes through. If we go through the hard times with him, then we’re certainly going to go through the good times with him! Romans 8:15-17 MSG

THOUGHT: Fear shuts down the capacity for an adventurous spirit, wouldn’t you say? If we’re timid and grave-tending, we’re trying hard to save or rescue or preserve ourselves. But guess what? Jesus has already done that work, and he said the more we try to preserve our own lives the more we’ll lose them (Luke 17:33). That’s what fear does.

Letting go, on the other hand, is an act of confident trust that paves the way for The Great Adventure. We don’t need to be thrill seekers, we just need to ask God for his will, and lean into the adventures that follow. We know who he is, and we know who we are. Through hard and good times, just as Jesus experienced, we’ll find exhilarating, unregrettable life – and an inheritance that means there is far more adventure ahead.

PRAYER: Oh Father God, don’t let me waste the life you’ve given me tending the grave. It can take care of itself while I follow you into whatever adventure you have planned today. What’s next, Papa?
