Little Lesson 17: What An Amazing Privilege is Ours

SCRIPTURE:  I, the Lord, am holy, and I make you holy. Leviticus 21:8 NLT

THOUGHT: It’s one thing to serve a holy God; it’s quite another to consider that he makes his home in us when we invite him to, sharing his holiness with sinful men and women.

It’s something I don’t fully understand, this plan of his to make us holy, but I believe him. Just as amazing to ponder is the truth that he could touch our lives with a holiness so powerful that we would be unable to bear it. But he doesn’t. His holy invasion into our lives is perfectly under control.

What an amazing privilege is ours to bear the weight of his holiness and glory even now, while he prepares us for the eternal weight of glory (2 Cor. 4:17 ESV). As we behold the glory of the Lord, says Paul, we “are being transformed into the same image from one degree of glory to another. For this comes from the Lord who is the Spirit (2 Cor. 3:18).”

He will make us holy, one degree at a time.

SONG:

God, your glory like the brightness of unrivaled light amazes,
Your greatness permeating every corner of the world
Though you dwell in highest places,
still your holiness invades us
As your presence fills the creatures you have made

Oh the miracle that we can dwell in you
Oh the wonder of the refuge you provide
But oh, the myst’ry of a God who entered time
Left perfection behind to dwell in us
