SCRIPTURE: Then those whose lives honored God got together and talked it over. God saw what they were doing and listened in. A book was opened in God’s presence and minutes were taken of the meeting, with the names of the God-fearers written down, all the names of those who honored God’s name.
God-of-the-Angel-Armies said, “They’re mine, all mine. They’ll get special treatment when I go into action. I treat them with the same consideration and kindness that parents give the child who honors them. Malachi 3:16-17 MSG
THOUGHT: It’s been four years and 10 days since I started this journey of the weekday devotional blog. Today’s scripture is the same one I used the second day, March 18, 2020. The beginning of the pandemic. The start of my desire to say something in a public place that makes a difference. To not just struggle and praise alone, but share it with you. It seems impossible in many ways. One thousand fifty-four times I’ve prayed, and listened, and opened my computer to write.
Today as I do the same for the 1055th time, it feels like I am facing a wall. There is so much coming at me, and us collectively, and it looks like a massive wall from which there is no escape. I want to quit. And yet, we serve the God-of-the-Angel-Armies, the one who makes doors in walls that cannot be scaled. The one who’s been watching and listening in to our conversations about fear and faith – the one who takes minutes of our meetings according to Malachi. The same one who treats God-honorers and God-fearers with the same consideration and kindness that parents give the child who honors them.
It is his kindness and presence that we most need – the unseen and holy visitor.
PRAYER: Oh God, I am so powerfully glad to serve the God who sees and hears, the God who writes it down so he won’t forget. Help whatever I say (and write) in your presence to be worthy of your note.
