SCRIPTURE: For all who rely on works of the law are under a curse; for it is written, “Cursed be everyone who does not abide by all things written in the Book of the Law, and do them.” Galatians 3:10 ESV
THOUGHT: Nowhere is it more clearly explained the reason why we are freed from the Old Testament law – and the reason it should fill us with joy. Paul – Paul! That man who described himself as “a Hebrew of Hebrews; as to the law, a Pharisee, as to zeal, a persecutor of the church (Phil. 3:5-6)” tells the Galatians that all the Gentiles who trust in Christ by faith are justified as Abraham was – by faith (Gal. 3:7). Further, he says that trying to operate under the law is putting yourself under a curse because no one is capable of abiding by everything written in the law. It’s purpose was to convict of sin he tells the Romans (Rom. 3:20).
So, it boils down to this: do you want to trust yourself and be judged by God’s perfect law, or do you want to trust Christ and be judged by his perfect blood? I know my own weaknesses and sin well enough to know the answer to that question – and I bet you do too.
PRAYER: Oh God, thank you for freedom from law-keeping and the constant reminder that I am operating under a curse. Thank you for freeing me from all of that Jesus, and for the grace that comes when I bow a knee to you.
