SCRIPTURE: All praise to the God and Father of our Master, Jesus the Messiah! Father of all mercy! God of all healing counsel! He comes alongside us when we go through hard times, and before you know it, he brings us alongside someone else who is going through hard times so that we can be there for that person just as God was there for us. We have plenty of hard times that come from following the Messiah, but no more so than the good times of his healing comfort—we get a full measure of that, too. 2 Corinthians 1:3-5 Message
THOUGHT: It’s said that turnabout is fair play. The original meaning of that idiom was that it’s fair to return evil for evil, but in this passage, Paul writes the church at Corinth that in God’s economy, it’s fair to return good for good. God comforts us when we go through hard times, and then brings along someone who needs the same comfort we’ve received. I’ve seen it in action and what a wonderful truth from God’s playbook.
Maybe you’re in need of mercy, healing counsel and comfort today. If so, ask the Master to come alongside you and start the circle that will end in good toward someone else as you learn and gain what you need and have something to pass along.
PRAYER: Oh God, thank you that you come alongside us when we go through hard times, teaching, preparing and offering a full measure of comfort so we’ll have enough to share.
