Delight, Part 2

SCRIPTURE:  For the Lord will again take delight in prospering you, as he took delight in your fathers, when you obey the voice of the Lord your God, to keep his commandments and his statutes that are written in this Book of the Law, when you turn to the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul. Deuteronomy 30:9-10 ESV

THOUGHT: Last week one day I talked here about how David delighted in God and doing God’s will, but Moses in Deuteronomy (long before David) spoke of how God delighted in his people. The key to living in that delight was putting all your heart and soul into loving the God who loves you. Turning toward God.

As I page forward into the New Testament, I hear Jesus’ voice reaffirming that loving the Lord your God with all your heart, soul, mind and strength was the most important commandment (Mark 12:30).

Paging forward again to present day, I love knowing that God has written his law on my heart – and that his Holy Spirit also lives there. What an advantage we’ve been given over the Old Testament saints. And yet, we often struggle like they did to get that first and most important commandment right. It’s motivating and encouraging to know as we press in and press on, that God delights in prospering his people. And his delight is promised at our turning.

PRAYER: Oh God, I want your delight, and I want to delight in you too. Help me turn fully toward you today, with all my heart, soul, mind and strength.
