Meditations on a King’s Prayer, 3

SCRIPTURE: And let these words that I’ve prayed in the presence of God be always right there before him, day and night, so that he’ll do what is right for me, to guarantee justice for his people Israel day after day after day. Then all the people on earth will know God is the true God; there is no other God. 1 Kings 8:59-60 MSG

THOUGHT: Have you ever thought about how prayer is an eternal reality? What you prayed for last year, your parents prayed for you during your childhood, your spouse prayed for you this morning, a friend thousands of miles away will pray tomorrow, or what Solomon prayed over his people and others who would follow, is still before God. Scripture says that the prayers of the saints fill golden bowls that are held before the throne (Rev. 5:8).

Solomon’s heart was that God would hear and answer so that all the people on earth would know the truth about God – do you think God is, for any reason, less interested in that today? I don’t, and I believe God is still answering, working in Kairos, God’s timing, rather than Chronos, our chronological way of measuring time.

PRAYER: Oh God, we don’t deserve your help to pray, to worship, to live according to your ways – and yet you are our helper. Help us pray with the strength and wisdom of Solomon, and answer us so that all the earth will know you are the one true God.
