Done

doneFrom ‘stick a fork in me, i’m done!’ to ‘well done’ — this is the continuum I live on right now. I don’t know about you, but many days, I just want to be done. But, more than that, I want to hear ‘well done’ — so there’s the rub. I have known in the past how desperate I am for God, and for his life to interrupt, till, and remake my own. But this is new. Life used to seem too short, but somehow now I find myself feeling that it’s so uncompromisingly long, the problems of the world are so uncompromisingly present and hard.

I realize this post won’t touch all of you — we’re at different points on the journey. But I feel compelled to say it out loud anyway, because maybe someone else needs to hear it too. We’re not done until God says ‘well done.’ The weaker I feel, the more his strength must be obvious to a broken world. So to those who need eagle’s wings today, I give ‘Done’:

Done

Forever seemed so far away when I was young
I made my choices, took my lumps, and time was long.
And against all odds, my fears were small, my hope was strong;
But I feel myself surrender to an unfamiliar song…still

It isn’t done
Until You say it’s done;
Until Your work is finished, and
My last, hard race is run.
I need those eagle’s wings
And fiercer Spirit winds
And strength to rise again
Until You say it’s done.

I’ve seen some strong hearts broken by this crazy world
When the place of sanctuary became the eye of storm
But I’ve also seen the mystery of Your love reaching down
Into chaos, and darkness, and pain You make your own…so

It isn’t done
Until You say it’s done;
Until Your work is finished, and
My last, hard race is run.
I need those eagle’s wings
And fiercer Spirit winds
And strength to rise again
Until You say it’s done.

Although the song has changed and I might cry at the refrain
I’m not giving up, just remembering again

It isn’t done
Until You say it’s done;
Until Your work is finished, and
My last, hard race is run.
I need those eagle’s wings
And fiercer Spirit winds
And strength to rise again
Until You say well done.
