SCRIPTURE: Isaiah 26:3-4 ESV You keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on you, because he trusts in you. Trust in the Lord forever, for the Lord God is an everlasting rock.
THOUGHT: Perfect peace. It’s what my friend Jerry desires as he waits for a triple or quadruple bypass surgery at 10 a.m. this morning in Kansas City. There is so much going on in his life that even if he didn’t have to go into open heart surgery, it would be over the top. He had cancer when we were about 40 and the heavy doses of chemo played havoc with his health and vocation since. He needs a kidney transplant and treatment for his eyes. One of his daughters was recently engaged and is now hospitalized for some serious testing and the other just got engaged Saturday. So much to live for; so many people who need his care, and yet the surgery suite is the way he must go to choose life (Deut. 30:19).
God’s promise for perfect peace flows into a heart and mind fixed on God as the answer. Full of trust that he knows every circumstance we face and loves us so much even the hairs on our head are numbered. In that place, with our feet on the rock, we can relinquish our own desire and anxiety – trusting that God’s will is for our good.
Will you pray with me today for Jerry and his family? For fresh and copious trust. For the laying down of every anxiety. For surgeon’s hands and medical personnel with not only competency, but compassion and faith as well. For encouragement from many sources. For life and perfect peace.
