Vitiated

SCRIPTURE: Woe to those who call evil good and good evil, who put darkness for light and light for darkness, who put bitter for sweet and sweet for bitter. Woe to those who are wise in their own eyes and clever in their own sightIsaiah 5:20-21

QUOTE: “A vitiated [impure] state of morals, a corrupted public conscience, is incompatible with freedom.” – Patrick Henry, Founding Father, 1st & 6th post-colonial Governor of Virginia

THOUGHT: Of course I know that to win the game you must study the opponents’ playbook! But I have two strikes against me: 1) I don’t think of life as a game to win or loose, and 2) Like most of you, I’m trying to run my own life, not everyone else’s.

Welcome to real life, Amy, where there is an enemy crouching at the door (Gen. 4:7), just waiting and watching my choices, wanting to control me and my life, and you and yours.

Most of us don’t play the game offensively, but others do, and they’ve been studying our playbook, learning how to overwhelm virtue and morality for the purpose of ushering out God and ushering in control. This is not just our playbook–it is God’s word, and the enemy is not only sin, and it is not just flesh and blood. It’s bigger than that.

We see an offensive strike today particularly in free speech and thought being shut down. Author and biographer Eric Metaxis cancelled from social media without warning; Dr. Robert Malone, who identifies himself as the inventor of mRNA vaccines, deleted from his LinkedIn business account after he made comments about mRNA COVID-19 vaccines and questioned whether they’re appropriate to give to certain groups of people; and conservative media such as The Epoch Times cancelled from social media sources they depend on financially.

Tolerance is giving way to intolerance, and increasingly there is an attempt to call light darkness and darkness light. The corrupted public conscience Patrick Henry spoke of is here, and it is incompatible with freedom. There is a form of government it is more suited for, however, and it is one that removes faith from heart and mind and public life, leaving room only for allegiance to the state.

PRAYER: Oh God who loved free will so much he died for it, be our help. We need to love free will and freedom too, not taking it for granted, not misusing it for evil, but using this gift, for which you paid dearly — the same desire for which so many fellow-Americans have died — for your will and purposes.
